This is it, folks. At 12:00 AM, Nov 19, the pre-season camp will close so if you want to attend the 4-day camp, you need to sign up today. Registration will close at 12:00 AM November 19, 2017.

With more than 30 participants, at least 4 great coaches and a great weather forecast, it looks to be a great camp.

MHRC Team Jacket Update

They are on their way!

I know everyone has been waiting impatiently for the new team jackets. With a lot of hard work over the summer and in the past few months, we are happy to announce that we have been able to secure sponsors to help cover the cost of the jackets. with over 100 jackets ordered, it was no small feat to get some significant sponsorship dollars to help defray the cost to our athletes. Our title sponsor was locked in just a couple of weeks ago and Karbon is now hard at work to get all the logos on the jackets.

We are happy to announce that our Title Sponsor this year is  Budd’s Subaru in Oakville and Subaru Canada. They will be prominently featured on the back of our jackets. They will be offering discounts to MHRC members and family as well.

Corbett’s Ski and Snowboard, Sidecut and the Lamb family have also joined the sponsor group. Corbett’s Ski and Snowboard will provide some gear and prizes for events to help the club. Corbett’s will also host MHRC event night to pick up the jackets and offer special door crasher specials as well as 15% discounts for MHRC members all year long for any purchases.

Sidecut will provide special MHRC pricing with a discount code for any orders you place online. They will also attend some of our events and provide tips and clinics throughout the year. Special offers will also be offered to members throughout the season.

MHRC day @ Corbett’s and jacket pick up day

In early Dec (Date to be confirmed), Corbett’s will host an MHRC day where they will have special door crasher items at crazy prices, special 20% off on (almost) all merchandise in the store (some exceptions may apply), Specials on tune-ups and more. POC reps and Head reps will be present to answer questions and provide information on their products. On the same day, you will be able to pick-up your team jacket for those who have ordered them last year. Stay tuned for more details about this great event.

Balance to be paid on Jackets

Some of you may have received a message from our old registration portal about a payment due on the jacket. Please ignore this notice as the system should have not sent that out. We need to compute all the sponsorship dollars contributed and issue the remaining balance owing. We will update you as we finalize the numbers in the next week or so.

It’s snowing at Tremblant! 5cm overnight!

Tremblant has been making snow all week getting ready for their season opener later this month. They are off to a great start and it should make for a great preseason camp. The camp is only one month away!

The camp is offered to the travel teams U8 through U19/21 and SBX athletes. Family members accompanying athletes also get the amazing deal on tickets.

Race Season Preparations

Hello again returning members, and a big welcome to new members of Milton Heights Racing Club.  Thursday we felt the first blast of cold air in the GTA, and with it, the Milton Heights Board of Directors is moving full speed ahead preparing for the 2017/18 race season at MHRC.  Our annual SKI SWAP wrapped up last weekend and was a huge success!  The board would like to thank all the club members who volunteered their time and energy to help run this annual event!  Without your support, we could not continue to offer excellent race and training programs.  Please review the high-level updates below, and look forward to more detailed emails and updates from Team Managers as the race season grows near!

 

Preparation For The Race Season

Many of the MHRC programs are almost full so if you haven’t registered, do so today. — HINT: Prices go up on Nov 12!  Regarding coach assignments – All coaches are currently going through the normal Glen Eden seasonal hiring process, but from all reports, we expect most to come back into the similar roles they held in previous years!  The SBX program will have changes in coaching.  Please look forward to more information on this shortly.

Christmas Camp

In an effort to ensure maximum on-snow time for the athletes, a few changes to Christmas Camp dates were made this year, with more options:

  • December 27-29 – Get an early start! – Sign up for optional extra training at Mount St Louis Moonstone. There will be a charge for these days, and a 6 racer minimum to make it ‘a-GO’.  The per-day fee for this program is $120 while signing up your racer for all 3 days is only $330.
  • December 30 and 31st are Part 1 of MHRC core Christmas Camp (cost included with program fee).  Location – Glen Eden.
  • January 2nd and 3rdSign up for optional extra training at Glen Eden. Again, the minimum number of racers signed up to make this happen will be 6.  The cost will be $60 dollars per day, and $100 if the racer is signed up for both days.
  • January 4th and 5th are Part 2 of MHRC core Christmas Camp (cost included with program fee).  Location – Glen Eden.

 

Regular Programming for the season begins on the following dates:

  • January 6th and 7th  – Travel ski race and SBX teams begin
  • Tuesday January 9th  – Adult TNT program begins
  • Saturday January 13th  –  Junior Development program begins

 

Travel Team Race Schedules

AOA has posted a draft version of the 2017-18 race schedule for all to view.  The schedule is multi-pages so you will have to do a bit of searching for appropriate age group and team information. A cautionary note –  the calendar is a draft version and subject to change and is beyond the club’s control.  All race schedules will be confirmed and shared by team managers as the season begins.

Team Building / Information Sessions

We are looking to schedule an MHRC Team Building and Parent Information Session event during the weekend of Dec 2nd.  We will keep you posted as soon as this date is confirmed.

Dryland training and housekeeping updates

Quick Update on Dryland training:

We have postponed the dates to after Nov 12th so that we can have as many of the team members present for the team building event. Keep checking the Events pages for updates on specific dates and also check your team calendar in TeamSnap.

Housekeeping

We have made some significant improvements with new technology in the last season, and we will continue down this path this season as well.

To streamline the flow of information and volume of emails, once all the teams are complete, communication will come via TeamSnap and updated information will be posted on the site. We will make away with the blog so that we can eliminate duplication. Unfurtunelty, we have to continue using the blog until everyone is registered. So hurry up and register!

We are also streamlining calendars. The new events page is a place to see the club-wide events; these events will also be reflected in your TeamSnap team calendars as well as all of the team-specific events and dates.

We have made some updates to the website in an effort to provide you with the information needed in an organized layout.

Calendars will all be inside TeamSnap by team so check with your team manager for specific team dates and times.

Registration is Open!

Registration is open for the 2017-18 season is now open. Go to register here. For traveling teams and SBX programs, you will also need to complete your AOA/SO registration before completing the MHRC registration.

Program fees can also be paid by Visa or Mastercard with instalments as an option, or by Interac email transfer.

Early bird pricing ens November 12 and if you choose to pay by Interac email transfer, you can save an additional $10 (Just choose Offline payments at time of checkout and you will get the instructions then).

 

Pre-Seasom Tremblant Camp registration.

The Pre-Season Treblamt trip for the traveling teams and SBX will open tomorrow on October 8, 2017. You need to be registered for a program to participate.

Don’t wait to register as accommodations are on a first come basis. We have secured as many rooms left as possible but larger rooms have limited availability.

Welcome to the 2017-18 Season

WELCOME MHRC MEMBERS AND RACERS

Waking up today to a significantly cooler morning than we have experienced the past weeks, makes the timing of this initial season kick-off communication seem perfect! This summer, through all the heat, rain and attempted vacation time, the MHRC Board, a dedicated team who volunteer their time, has been hard at work preparing for the 2017/18 ski/sbx race season.  With input from members and coaches, the board took a deep dive look into all our programming, special events and extra training, to ensure racers and their parents, would get the best possible season we could provide, (weather outside of our control of course ;).  In stating that, our website is in its’ final stages of review, updates have been made in all areas of program descriptions, as well as other pages, and registration is ready to open in the next days.  We hope you are pleased with the updates.  What follows are a few headlines of changes and updates to ensure you are familiar with, before registration opens.  As always, stay tuned to the webpage, read the blog updates (ensure you are signed up with a frequently used email address), and start thinking about your choice of volunteer activities.  Let this be the start of a great season, with lots of snow and safe exciting racing!

Programming

The board, in keeping with a mandate for high quality programming with measurable results, reviewed every aspect of our programs.  We feel this coming season will provide the highest quality programming for all age groups, both travel and development.  We have worked closely with head coach Sarah, and Alpine Ontario, and Glen Eden to ensure the club is in a good position to offer the best experience and training with our not-for-profit pricing model.  Please review the updated website for further details on each program – description, scheduled training days, and overall pricing.   Any enquiries should be put through – info@miltonheights.com – this ensures the board is able to review as a whole every question/comment.

Registration – Opens Oct 7th, 2017

Last year the club successfully adopted TeamSnap for all communication to racers and scheduling.  For the 2017/18 season, we have further expanded our use of TeamSnap to include registration.  It will now be the one tool used across the club for both payment and scheduling.  With the help of our extreme IT savvy board member Marc Léveillé, registration has been streamlined and very user friendly.  TeamSnap makes it easy for families to register with MHRC online. Using our registration portal, you will be able to complete online registration for programs, extra training, races… you name it.  All you have to do to register is go to our new registration page at miltonheights.com/registration/ and go from there. You will also find a video that will show you how to use the new registration process. Further questions related to registration should be sent to registrar@miltonheights.com

 

VOLUNTEER

As a volunteer based club we all need to give our time to keep the club running throughout the season. These efforts are key to not only keeping costs down, but ensuring smooth training days, and race events both at home and away.  Coaches are in no way responsible for the administration, club house chores, and other non-program/non-race activities – that is solely up to the membership, parents and board.  The board itself is made up of volunteers that put in countless hours, even during the off season.  Please ensure you stay up to date on needed volunteer requests and roles, as well as general training day clubhouse tidying.  It is your responsibility to ensure your volunteer hours are accounted for at the end of the season.  Thank you in advance for doing your part!  For more information on volunteering, have a look at the volunteering page at miltonheights.com/volunteering/ on the website. SKI SWAP

As many of you are aware, the Milton Heights Ski Swap, or what is referred to by it’s website name as SuperSkiSwap, is the highlight of season kick off, as well as the most important means of fundraising the club has.  A successful swap ensures the cost to you and your racer stays within reach!  We have created a flyer that we ask you to print, email, spam, and post, where you can to ensure this amazing event is advertised in as many locations as possible. You can find it on our swap page or by clicking here to download it.  We have the whole of the GTA as well as south western Ontario to pull potential buyers from!  This year the MHRC Ski Swap is working very closely with Glen Eden and some concrete changes have been made. The site of the swap has been moved to Glen Eden property – you won’t miss the huge white tents!  There will many more activities and an endless supply of equipment both new and used for purchase.  This is also an event that allows for you to complete your volunteer hours in one swoop!  Please see www.superskiswap.com for details.

DRYLAND TRAINING

MHRC Dryland Training has also been revised for the start of the 2017/18 season.   Each group will have a team building event day.  The coaches will take them through a fun filled fitness day!  During this time it is also mandatory that at least one parent attend a parent meeting regarding your racer’s upcoming season.  Look forward to an email from team managers with further details.  Please note Junior Development (JDL) do not take part in this training.

PRE–SEASON MT TREMBLANT CAMP – SKI / SBX

Our pre-season Mt-Tremblant trip is being finalized as we speak. We’ve had great feedback from both surveys which will help make this trip the best one yet. Dates are the following: 4 day camp – Dec 14th to 17th ; 6 day camp option – Dec 12th to Dec 17th. Keep in mind that the traveling days for each camp are, respectively, Dec 13th and Dec 11th so that we can have an early start on snow. Look for additional details as soon as they are finalized on the website under events.
