Hello MHRC Families!
Here is your weekly update for the weekend of February 3-4th.
There were lots of incredible results from our racers this weekend, read on for all of the group’s updates.
Our U8’s continued to develop their skills to maintain their speed along the slope. They continued practicing different drills to maintain smooth “S” curves on the slope and keep both skis in parallel.
The U10’s had a great weekend of skiing.
They were busy working on turns around brushes and through obstacles.
Everyone is getting much more comfortable on their skis and having a great time doing it.
On Sunday the minis were training for their upcoming race at Chicopee, doing some GS runs and technical work.
This week on Saturday U10s had their first race of the season at Boler mountain, hosted by London Ski Club – Cupid Classic GS. MHRC skiers haven’t got any medals, but we had a few athletes in top 10! Congratulations to Matvei Bivol (9th with 20.83) and Cameron Kenny (8th with 20.64) among boys, and Jordan Cole (7th with 20.68) and Elle Sweet (6th with 20.24) among girls. It was a tough competition, and we are all very proud with our U10s! And a huge shoutout goes to the racers’ parents for cheering for their club, we’ve definitely scored first here!
The U12’s had a very busy and successful weekend. We had four racers attend the Shoot the Canyon Invitational at Beaver Valley on Friday, where they were challenged by a very difficult, steep slalom course.
On Saturday, the team travelled to Caledon Ski Club for a Kombi race. We had two podium finishers, with Ashley Caston bringing home the silver and Tyler Udovic bringing home the bronze! An honourable mention goes to Teagan McEvoy with a top ten finish! Out of 8 teams, MHRC finished in 2nd place, only 12 points out of first! Way to go team!
On Sunday, the athletes spent most of the day training on a GS course down Challenger in preparation for their race at Mansfield this Saturday.
The U14 skiers headed to The Heights this past weekend for their first GS race. For the women, Kaiya Pan and Kylie Udovic had top ten finishes with 4th and 9th place respectively. On the boys side, Ashton Baxter made the top ten coming in at number ten. The racers had a great day and the parents enjoyed some apres ski in the sunshine. The team is looking to get some more GS time on the slopes this week as they prepare for their final race.
Wow, what a weekend! The U16-19 group travelled to Mansfield and attended their first GS race of the year. GS means fast and furious down the hill, and for some, there are nerves; for others, it is a time to say ‘tuck-it-lets-go’! Congrats to all athletes, and a shout out to the following for being in the top 15 in their respective groups:
Dahlia Stoll – 4th with a combined time of 54.26
Gunnar Popek – 5th with a combined time of 53.29
