Hello MHRC families!

Hard to believe it’s the middle of February already.  It has been a crazy winter, with lots of changes to scheduling in the season.  A big thank you to all of the parents, volunteers and athletes for making the most of this season so far.

Here is your weekly racing update.

JDL Teams

Training and practice weekend for all of the JDL teams.  It was a great weekend of skiing and fun.

U8/U10

The U8/U10 team had another good weekend training at Glen Eden. They worked on keeping their upper body pointing down the hill as well as their pole positions while going through a course. They also made the most of the weather where jackets were optional!

A number of racers will be going to Mansfield for an Invitational GS this Friday. Good luck to all!

U12

U12 headed to Jozo – Blue Mountain on Saturday for another race.  Although the course was icy, the team had a great time and worked on honing their racing skills.

Shout outs go to Tyler U., who was the top male coming in at 7th place.  Sprinkled throughout the finish times came the other top male MHRC racers Adam, Alexander, Carson, and Max.  For the women, we’d like to congratulate Kaiya P., who was the top female finisher for MHRC coming in at 12th place.  Faith, Teagan, Erica, and Alice weren’t far behind.  Way to go racers!

The team then headed home for training on Sunday and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on the slopes at Glen Eden.  We are looking forward to more home training this coming weekend.

U14

U14s had their fourth race of the season last Sunday at Muskoka Ski Club. It was a beautiful weekend in Huntsville which started with the team bonding over a nice meal and being the last group to shut down a local restaurant. The white snow glistened as the sun shined on the hills and our athletes who all performed their best. Mara Bucur finished in 10th place followed by Avery Oh then Kiley Udoivc. Ashton Baxter, Connor Rebstock and William Watkins finished in respective order. A big thank you to our coaches, Cameron and Jamie. You ensure that our kids always have fun while competing. Thank you for the guidance, support and coaching.

U16/U19

On Saturday, the U16-19 team travelled to Caledon for their last Slalom race of the year. The course was challenging, and putting together two consecutive runs for many was hit-and-miss, but through it all, we saw some stellar results:

Top Athletes:

  • U16 Girls – Dahlia Stoll (24), Maya Allen (32)
  • U16 Boys – Jack Matthews (9), Aydan Dewees (19)
  • U19 Girls – Savannah Stoll (7), Hailey Israel (8)
  • U19 Boys – George Bartlett (5), Connor Henry (7), Jacob Long (13)

And a huge shout out to the parent group! Cat herding 30+ athletes on race day takes a village, but with everyone lending a hand, it makes it a fun experience for all!
