Hello MHRC families,
It’s been a tough start to the ski season this year but all the groups finally had a full weekend of racing and training.
Here are some of the highlights and race results from your past week.
Let’s keep positive thoughts going forward for more snow!
JDL 7-9
The JDL youngsters are off to a great start after their first week of training with their coaches and are looking forward to their skills course next week!ย Here is a shot of the Tigers and the Cheetahs with coach Carter and coach Brian!
JDL U14
Our group was able to complete it’s first full day of training on the hill at Glen Eden this past weekend. Coach Anneliese was able to put the team through their paces and everyone got some much needed snow time. Their first event is coming up on Saturday and will be a timed skills event.ย It should be a fun time for the group and hopefully provide a sense of where they’re at in terms of skills they need to work on.
U8/U10
The U8/U10 team had two good days of training at Glen Eden. They were excited to be back in the clubhouse and certainly kept the canteen busy!
They have their first race this Saturday at Glen Eden. With limited training this season, this will be a fun skills event.
U12
U12 headed to Mansfield Saturday for their first race of the season!ย The racers learned a lot and should be proud of their performances.ย Thanks to the coaches for their time and support at the race and thanks to all the parents for their spirit and encouragement of the racers.
Top female finisher for MHRC was Faith Zwarich who came in with a personal best.
Top male finisher for the club was Adam Herrington.
On Sunday, the team had their first at-home training session.ย It was great to be back home and back in the routine of things.
U14
First Race of the Season at The Heights.
We have an amazing group of kids in U14, all had an awesome first race of the season. Everyone loved seeing all of their smiling faces and eagerness to get their first race under their belts. Their parents are a super bunch as well with all hands (every single athletes’ parent) helping in one way or another. We are going to have a great season.
Honourable mention:
Kylie Udovic’s impressive second run placed her behind Mara Bucur who ranked in the top 8.
Teia Garcia followed right behind Kylie.
As for the males, in order: Ashton Baxter, William Watikins and Connor Rebstock.
Congratulations goes out to all of our awesome athletes. See you at training on Thursday in preparation for the GS Race at Mount St. Louis Moonstone (Glacier Ski Club).
U16/U19
Although we still await winter-like weather, last Sunday, Mansfield put on an excellent slalom race with about 200 athletes, including over 30 MHRC athletes from our U16-19 group.ย Shout out to those racing for their very first time, including Charlotte Israel and Jerry Jiang!!
